I’ve not been in the “ministry” long – and truth be told I’m not even really in it fully yet – but I’m on my way. I’m in this sort of ministry no-man’s land area right now – having willingly turned my back on the business world and wanting to embrace ministry in order to make a real difference in a few people’s lives. I realise I cannot make a difference for everyone but it was Mother Theresa I think who said that whilst we cannot all help everyone, each of us can help someone. And that was good enough for me.
Was I in for a BIG surprise or what!?!?
The vast majority of people that make up the Kingdom of God OF this world are hardly any different to the people that make up the kingdom of Satan IN this world! So many Christians like to make the comment that whilst they are IN this world, they are not OF this world. Ha! You wanna bet Joe?
I already find the majority of the human race very disappointing. Do I now have to face the same statistic in the Kingdom of God?
Seriously, it is as though the Kingdom of God is so thin on this earth that it is hardly visible at all.
When I first decided to be obedient to God’s call and enter the ministry I thought that if I sent out a comprehensive CV, I would at least get a better response than I would if this were a secular business situation. I didn’t.
I sent my CV out to nearly 50 different churches, expecting at least a courteous reply. And from some I did get just that. One person said he recognized me from the Matthew Lunch and wished me all the best, but that he had no paid positions available. This happened with maybe three or four people.
But then God’s incredible immaculate timing took over and it became very obvious that no matter how we treat each other or how hard we try to force things to work on our own, two scriptures come to mind here…
John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” This is Jesus talking to His disciples, His ‘lads’, on the way to Gethsemane, from where He would be illegally arrested and tried, and…
Proverbs 16:9 – We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
One reply to my CV came from Gilliam Noeth at Anchor of Hope saying that they could certainly use someone of my particular skills and talents, but that they could not afford to pay me anything at all.
